White rice in a gluten-free diet

White rice is naturally gluten-free, so it’s ideal for use in kitchens where a simple, rice-based alternative is needed alongside wheat-based side dishes, pasta or flour-based dishes. After cooking, it can be prepared to have a soft, slightly crunchy or fluffier texture, depending on how much water you use and how long you leave it to rest.

Thanks to its neutral flavour, it goes well with a wide variety of dishes: vegetable stews, roasted vegetables, meat dishes, fish, as an addition to soups, in rice-based one-pot meals, in fillings and in casseroles.

Suggested method of preparation

Rinse the rice before cooking. You can briefly fry it in a little cold-pressed natural oil, then season with salt and add about twice as much water. Bring to the boil, then cook, covered, over a low heat until tender. Generally 10–15 minutes will be completed by then.

For fluffier rice, leave it to rest, covered, for a few minutes after cooking, then fluff it up with a fork. For casseroles and fillings, it’s best to cook the rice until it’s slightly firmer; for rice pudding or a softer side dish, adding more liquid and letting it rest for longer will give it the right consistency.

The difference between white rice and brown rice

A white rice Polished rice, which is lighter in colour, softer and has a more neutral flavour. It cooks more quickly, is easier to season, and goes well with dishes where the side dish does not need to have a strong flavour of its own.

A brown rice a less refined form. The outer layer of the rice grain contains fibre, minerals and plant-based compounds, which is why brown rice is darker in colour, has a more distinctive flavour and a firmer texture. It is best to use the two types of rice for different dishes: white rice makes a softer, quicker side dish, whilst brown rice is better suited to heartier, more fibre-rich meals.

What should you choose to go with it?

If you also make gluten-free recipes using flour, the white rice flour, brown rice flour and organic millet flour It is ideal for pancakes, thickening, breading and mixed batters. Organic brown rice and organic millet add a different texture and flavour to side dishes, so they complement white rice well.

They go well with porridges, rice-based desserts and sweeter dishes, such as plain dried fruit. For ready-made side dishes, vegetable one-pot meals and rice salads served cold, the cold-pressed natural oils give it a more distinctive flavour.

If you want to eat more fibre, the Apple fibre and the Apple Pectin with Inulin It can be used as a separate addition. For homemade cakes, fillings and more distinctive gluten-free recipes, the sparrows …are also well connected.
